Nanotechnology deals with the manipulation of nano-objects whose dimensions are nanometric, that is one million times smaller that one millimeter. For instance, a 50nm-diameter nanoparticle (a “sphere” made with aggregated atoms) is 1000 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair!
Why is it a revolution?
Working with nanotechnology means working in a nanoworld with completely different physical laws. At the nanoscale, if we had an atom size, we would be able to be at different places at the same time, to cross walls, to be both dead and alive…Thus, controlling nanotechnology allows to take advantages of all these new properties.

Every day you use nano-object-based products: a suncream protecting you against UVs, car tyres reducing your fuel consumption, a very resistant tennis racket with carbon nanotubes, and the plane that takes you on holidays was probably covered with a nanoparticle-based paint improving adherence…
