How Often Does an IBC Tank Need to be Inspected?
According to the current regulations that exist, an IBC tank will typically need to be inspected every 30 months. This should be seen as a bare minimum, though. There are also circumstances where they should be inspected even more. Let’s cover some factors that may force you to have your IBC tank inspected more frequently.
1. Intensity of Use
The manner in how you use the IBC tank is one of the first things to consider. If you are constantly dropping the IBC tank or using it violently by any means you will likely need to have it inspected more frequently.
2. Damage
In any instance where any part of the IBC tank becomes damaged, you should immediately take the initiative to have the tank inspected. This is regardless of how long it has been since the last inspection.
3. Type of Materials Stored
Storing materials that are hazardous, acidic, and so on may force you to need more inspections than normal. It is important that the IBC tank integrity remains intact for things like these.
Additional Factors to Keep in Mind
Realistically, these are a small snapshot of the many potential problems that may force you to get your IBC tank inspected with more frequency than the recommended 30 months. Here are some other factors to keep in mind:
- Certifications of the IBC tank.
- Type of IBC tank you have.
- The durability of the IBC tank materials.
