How are IBC Tanks Used in the Chemical Processing Industry?
IBC tanks are used widely across the chemical industry for product shipment and storage. With a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and designs, the Intermediate Bulk Container is perfect for shipping everything from solids to liquids and for storing them for future use.
Standard Form of the IBC
Each rigid IBC is equipped with a durable plastic bottle, a cap for filling, a spout or valve for easy and spill-free pouring, and a metal cage for support. These design features ensure that the bottle will not spill while in transport, and the steel frame ensures the containers can be stacked even when full (~1100 kg).
Possible Modifications of an IBC Tank
Manufacturers of IBC tanks often provide the opportunity to customize the sizes, designs, and materials. Customers can choose to replace the steel frame with a carbon steel or stainless steel frame to decrease weight or prevent rusting. Some may even choose to replace the plastic bottle with a steel one for shipping hazardous chemicals. Fabric IBC tanks can also be customized with special lining materials to prevent static or escape of dust-like products. Even the spout and fittings of the IBC tank can be specialized to suit the chemical inside.
