Why Is the Bottom Lift Test Used?
The bottom lift test guarantees that even when overloaded, a unit lifted from the bottom will not break or fail. This ensures that the product inside will be safe in shipping and storage. It also prevents accidents involving forklifts or pallet jacks as well as those operating them.
What are the Specifics of the Bottom Lift Test?
To pass the test, a container is loaded to 1.25 times its permissible gross mass, then lifted with a forklift twice. For a unit to pass, the test must be repeated on every point of entry, typically all four sides. This test must only be completed on units intended to be lifted from the bottom, excluding Flexible IBCs.
Who Administers the Test?
Among others, this test is regularly administered to ensure the safety and quality of tanks. It may be completed by a professional at the testing company or at the manufacturing company. Each testing member must comply with data collection standards for the unit to pass.
