Who Regulates How IBC Tanks are Manufactured?

IBC production is regulated by many different potential authorities. These include organizations that represent international, national, and religious authorities. These regulations have a direct impact on the production process of IBCs. Let’s go ahead and look at the major authorities on who regulates how IBC tanks are manufactured.

NSF/ANSI

The National Science Foundation (NSF) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) are two of the major actors that regulate how IBC tanks are manufactured. The NSF is a USA-funded agency. The ANSI is also based in the USA but works with international companies.

IMDG

The International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG) is an internationally-certified code that regulates the transportation of dangerous and/or hazardous materials by water. Due to the nature of this sort of transportation, it is imperative for IBCs to match up to certain specifications.

ISO

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is based out of Geneva in Switzerland. They are a non-governmental and international authority that sets production standards for many companies in the industrial and commercial sectors. This also includes the production of IBC tanks.

Other Authorities Worth Mentioning

As mentioned, local legislators operating in small municipalities and religious authorities are other common authorities that can influence the production process of IBC tanks.
