What are IBC Tanks Made of?
IBC tanks can be made up of many potential materials. Typically, the main materials used are plastic and metal. However, this also depends on the type of IBC you purchase, who the manufacturer is, and so on. Let’s explore the major materials IBC tanks are made of.
Container
The container of an IBC tank is typically made up of high-density polyethylene (HDPE). If this material is not used, there are some instances where IBC containers are made of materials like aluminum, galvanized iron, and so on.
Outer Cage
The outer cage of an IBC tank is typically made from a strong material such as steel or iron. In the case that you are using an IBC tank for an explosion hazard zone, then the outer cage will be more like a shell and completely cover the tank itself with a sheet of steel.
Valves & Smaller Parts
There are various valves and smaller parts used in the construction of an IBC that are made with materials like polypropylene. Plastic is another common material used in some of the smaller parts.
Some Main Pallet Materials
The pallet is the object that the IBC tank actually sits on. It’s important to note, though, that the pallet can be made with many possible materials. Here are the main pallet materials that you can find:
- Wooden pallets;
- Composite pallets;
- Steel pallets;
- Plastic pallets.
