How are IBCs Used in Agriculture?
IBCs ship solids, liquids, and everything in between. Especially useful in the agricultural industry, these cube-shaped shipping containers optimize space in the shipping and storage of goods. IBCs carry products needed for the healthy growth of plants, such as water and pesticides, as well as the products themselves.
Two Types of IBC
Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs) are cube-shaped shipping containers that are more space-efficient than other shipping methods, including pallets. They fall under two large categories: rigid and flexible. Rigid IBCs have a bottle, screw cap, valve or spout, and metal cage. Flexible IBCs are woven polypropylene or polyethylene sacks that become cubic when full of materials and collapse when empty. Both can be moved with a pallet jack or forklift.
Applications of Rigid IBCs
Rigid IBC tanks are used to store liquids, as they seal tightly and pour cleanly. In agriculture, IBCs are used to collect and dispense rainwater, carry liquid fertilizers, and contain potentially hazardous chemical pesticides.
Applications of Flexible IBCs
Flexible IBC totes are used to ship solids that flow, such as powders and grains. They can ship products including fertilizers and topsoil as well as the seeds used for planting and the grains collected in harvest.
